VMCC Ltd (British Historic Racing) Newsletter – February 2010
Welcome to British Historic Racing for the 2010 season
CHAIRMAN’S REPORT
2010 race season is now upon us and I wish you all a good and safe seasons racing.
2009 was a slight improvement on the very wet 2008 race season with only Anglesey giving us a problem of which I am pleased to say that we coped with thanks to the professional way your officials, marshals etc carried out their duties. Let us not forget the riders who got on with the racing in difficult conditions. The 2010 calendar gives 10 days of racing. Unfortunately we will not be at Anglesey, not because of the past 2 years but because we could not put a programme together around the dates offered to give at least 3 weeks between our meetings. So for this year we are going back to Pembrey, a long trip for some of you but never the less an excellent circuit for which we hope we have a good entry. In the newsletter below are reminders of eligibility procedures, changes made at the AGM and our race dates, so please take note.
Yours in sport Gerry Daine

SECRETARY’S REPORT
Welcome to my second newsletter as Secretary of the racing arm of The Vintage Motorcycle Club Ltd, British Historic Racing.
With test day rapidly approaching, please get your entries in to Pauline as early as you can.The format will be much the same as in previous years where sessions will be 10 minuits long, on a first come, first served basis. to begin with the novices and scooters will test on their own, all others in order; Novice, solo, solo, solo, 3-wheeler, then the sessions will be filled with whosoever turns up first. I hope you are looking forward to the racing season as much as I am, it is unfortunate that Anglesey were not able to offer us a date that fitted in with our calender, but please try and support the meeting at Pembrey. The forum continues to be a good airing ground of thoughts for the future of BHR, and although some of the comments provoke more responses than others, it is the medium of the future. If you have any thoughts on any issues in this newsletter, please give Gerry or me a call. Kim
TREASURER’S REPORT
Hello Everyone Hope you are all well and working hard preparing those bikes for the forthcoming season, we have a good selection of meetings spread evenly over season starting with the practice day on March 5th. As announced at the AGM the increase in the ACU insurance, circuit hire and VAT going back up to 17.5% means we have had to increase entry fees, the first ride increases by £5.00, the second ride stays the same as last year and extra races go up from £15.00 per ride to £17.50 per ride. There are also slight changes to the refund policy, where all requests for refund on the day, will be referred to committee for approval.
Good luck for the coming season Roy Moore
ENTRIES SECRETARY
With the new season rapidly approaching, can I remind all riders to submit their entry as early as they can, it really does it make my job easier. This year will see a different face in the office at Mallory race day signing you on, Stan and I will be cruising around the Caribbean taking a well deserved break, leaving Kim Allen to man the office.
Have a successful and safe new year, Pauline.
TECHNICAL MATTERS
The fuel testing rig will be out again this season, so please ensure that the recommendations regarding the amount of fuel left in your tank at the end of a race complies with the requirement in the ACU handbook. The club has been given a capacity testing device. This is a simple device, and is only designed to give an indication of cylinder volume.,The ACU handbook states a process that can be carried out to give an accurate capacity check, and will be carried out if our basic measuring device indicates a difference from the
declared capacity.
Eligibility
With the 2010 season quickly approaching it is still a concern that a number of our machines do not conform to BHR eligibility rules. We have pre 63 machines using post 63 carb’s, brakes, and gear boxes with some non European, odd ones with fairings. This season we will expect riders to bring their bikes into line with eligibility rules and with an increase in eligibility committee a higher degree of scrutiny will take place. Only bike’s that are eligible will score championship points. Quite a number of pre 73 machines are using later parts also and the same rule applies. During the closed season some of you will have changed machines, modified the one you plan to ride in 2010 etc. Now is the time to inform me by letter or register any new bike. I shall be at Mallory test day (5th March) and available all day to deal with all the above, you will find me in the control tower.
Tyre/Wheel Size.-Solos
A reminder to riders, the maximum wheel size for all solo classes in BHR racing is WM3, similarly the maximum tyre size is 130mm. Any bigger than this is outside the machine specification, and the bike would be an invited entry.
Have a good season Gerry Daine
AGM BITS
Champion of Champions
It was a difficult decision made by the committee to end the solo C of C, but for various reasons we seemed unable to run the race at a part of the race programme, where riders would turn out and support it.The Three-Wheeler C of C will continue to be run, andmay I give congratulations to this years number 1 plate holder Nick Weson, who with his sons in the chair has put on a superb display throughout the year. Until we have a workable way of awarding the solo number 1 plate, it will not be alocated.
Solo Motorcycle Specials.
The new event for up to 250cc solo motorcycles was passed and will further split the specials class this year. The AGM also put a ceiling on the date for elegible two strokes in the specials class, ending at 31st december 1967.
Three-Wheeler tyre size
A rather complicated proposal relating to wheel and tyre size for Threewheelers and sidecars was also passed at the AGM. Wheels may have an internal maximum size of 5.5 inches, and tyres having a maximum contact patch of 5.5 inches, but still no slicks!
Pre-62 class 501-unlimited.
The AGM also passed the proposal that will allow pre 62 specials to enter, and score points in the pre 62 class. This will have the effect to make it easier to build a bike elegible for this event, as it can have more than one make parts in its construction.
16” Wheel Championship
The proposal for the 16” wheeler championship was passed to encourage genuine 16” wheeled outfits to once again be awarded for their efforts.A trophy will be awarded at the end of the year to the winner.
Carburettors
A proposal to allow the use of Amal Mk1 and Mk2 carbs in the 49-62 class was not passed at the meeting. This will ensure that only period carbs can be used.
Novice Championship
This will only be run at 2-day meetings and is onl y open to riders in their f irst two years of riding as a Novice.
BBQ LYDDEN
With the incredible efforts of “Team Noble, Hunt,Thelwell and Capewell”, the Bar-B-Que that has become a traditional feature at Lydden will continue. Big thanks to them for their support.
Lydden race Meeting
Lydden is to host the Tim Johnson races, and as an encouragement this year, trophies will be awarded for a nominated solo scratch race on the Saturday.
Technical Checks and Signing On
At 2-day meetings you will only need to sign on, and complete a technical check on the first day. If you enter the second day only, you will need a check and sign on as usual. We will, wherever possible, have the technical check available the evening before the first day. If significant re-build overnight or any damage to machine, the technical check on Sunday is compulsory.
Noise
Its seems that the pleasure of hearing our machines at their best, is to be denied all future spectators at race events. At the moment there are no plans to reduce the limits even further, but we are instructed by Cadwell that they require 100% noise testing. For those of you that were there last year, you will understand the problem with the logistics we encountered. I will attempt to organise teams of noise operators to work through the entry, and at least get through the process as quickly as possible. Please read your final instructuions before you get there, as there will be more information.
Practice and Assembly
All riders will have one practice tag. No rider will be allo wed to practice without pr oducing a tag. Riders should practice on the largest capacity machine first. Also the way we have been running the sighting lap for the last few years will alter for Cadwell. The assembled grid will be sent down to the start line whilst the race on the track is being cleared. The committee hope that this will save a few minuits from each race, and allow a little slack in the programme.
SPORT PICS & GRAHAM LAWLOR
Russell and Graham are our joint PRO’s.The quality of their photos and write-ups are excellent, and if you wish a mention please contact either of them.
UNDER 18’S
Parents, or legal guardians with proven documentation,MUST be at the race meeting, and MUST fill in the parental consent form for all under 18 riders, officials and marshals.
MARSHALS
This year will be no easier on the Marshals front, with the lack of Marshals becoming a concern. Please endeavour to bring one with you, or encourage a friend to help with the numbers.
