More of you are still needed to write event reports . . be you an interested party, mechanic, passenger or rider it matters only that you write something in an e-mail and send it to me for publication, if you feel comfortable adding your own work to the website user privileges maybe elevated for this to happen.
Frustrating, that’s the word, frustrating . . . that some new users can register details and receive a confirmation e-mail and others can’t. There seems to be no consistency in registration with which to pin down the problem, it’s not down to e-mail settings, e-mail addresses, ISPs, the host server or geographic location and I refuse to accept that every potential website user wont check their spam folders – if they use spam filters – if they experience an overdue expected e-mail. So to that end I’ve lifted the membership restriction to view championship tables and other aspects of the site but retain the requirement for registration should you want to read the committee meeting, AGM minutes. Posting articles to the site still requires registration. Those of you that have registered details and have not received a confirmation e-mail in return, please re-register if you want / need to and I’ll do the rest . . . seems the least frustrating way at this time is to manually approve every potential BHR website user.

I’ve made changes to the way new users register their details with this site. If you are a new user you will now have to confirm your details yourself by clicking on the confirmation link in the registration e-mail you should receive. If you do not receive a registration confirmation e-mail within 2 days, e-mail me and I’ll take another look at the settings . . . I’ve just registered new user details to test the system with out problems. Now the reason for the changes . . . the website is experiencing an amount of bogus / spam related requests for site registration that I consider unacceptable (6 today already). Previously when an application to register details had been received I sent an e-mail to suspect addresses and deleted the more unsavoury looking e-mail addresses (lookatme@gmail.com, Lindawantsyou@rsl.ru etc etc) in a bid to illicit a response which invariably never arrived, when no response arrived within 3 days the application was deleted. This eats into the time resources available and slows down any other work / updates the site needs, such as the all important championship tables, so anything that makes that task easier will be implemented with as little [...]

The race is the 18th DECCLA Classics Endurance Trophy. It takes place at Cartagena on the east coast of Spain on the 24th and 25th of September. It’s 6-hour endurance race with a night-time finish, followed by a meal and party for all the teams. Andy Hunt and Mark Capewell have taken part on a couple of occasions have really enjoyed it and may help with some pointers . The atmosphere is great, it’s still a friendly club affair although it’s an international event with participants from all over Europe. The entry fee is 800 euros per team which includes the following: - 6-hour race – 1-hour night-time practice on Friday – Practice and qualifying on Saturday during the day – Pit garage – Souvenirs – Medals for all finishers – 6 classes with podium presentations – Meal following the race If anyone’s interested, they can e-mail me at zoe@deccla.com (I act as the club’s translator/contact for foreigners) or find out more information at www.deccla.com.

Event 19, The Aurora Stove Enamelling championship, and Event 9, The Mechanical Developments championship, now have ‘reporters’. Dave Deane has taken up the keyboard and will tap in a few words for this championship, whilst Tim Kingham (brother of Ben Kingham #55) has agreed to write a few lines for Event 9. I want to take this opportunity to ask for ‘reporters’ to pen something for other events, if you are not comfortable writing directly, write something in an e-mail send it me and I’ll take care of the rest. Again, as I have said before, encouraging comments please and remember that these reports are written from the authors viewpoint. Welcome aboard gentlemen.
